Class! The Doctor Who spinoff takes place at Coal Hill School, which was actually the setting of the very first episode of Who, “An Unearthly Child,” way back in 1963. Since then, the house of education appeared here and there, but became a much more popular locale after Clara Oswald started teaching there in “The Day of the Doctor.”
Aimed at the young adult crowd, the series will focus on all the usual high school topics like grades, budding relationships, sex, social anxieties and rips in the space time continuum. Steven Moffat will act as an executive producer, but Class will be in the capable hands of Patrick Ness whose YA books The Knife of Never Letting Go and A Monster Calls have won their fair share of awards and praise over the years. Doctor Who director Ed Bazalgette is on board to helm the pilot.
Finally, BBC America is co-producing so hopefully that means we’ll get episodes on this side of the pond at around the same time they do over in England.
